"Give me a huggie."

Have you ever experienced the magic of a heartfelt hug that filled your soul with warmth and love? That simple embrace can mend a broken heart, wipe away sadness, and fill you with the joy you needed at that exact moment!

What is a hug, you ask? It's not just a word; it's a powerful gesture that speaks volumes. According to Dictionary.com, a hug means:

  • To clasp tightly in the arms with affection; embrace.

  • To cling firmly or fondly to; cherish.

  • To keep close to, whether sailing, walking, or moving alongside.

The wise once said, "We need four hugs a day for survival, 8 for maintenance, and 12 for growth." Imagine the incredible impact of those warm embraces! I think of the pure joy I share with children, and those hug numbers seem just right - or maybe even a bit low. My little cousin always brightens my day with her spontaneous hugs, insisting on multiple hugs before bedtime!

There are countless benefits to receiving hugs. A simple hug can calm anxiety, slow the heartbeat, and release oxytocin - the hormone that fosters connections with others. It's like a warm blanket of safety and love, healing both body and soul. A hug is a sanctuary, a place where you can find peace and comfort, like a child in the arms of a beloved family member. A hug evokes nostalgia, bringing to mind the lyrics of the song Back in the Day by Ahmad, where he reflects, "Back in the day when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore, but some days I wish I was a kid again."

For me, that place was always beside my grandmother. I remember fighting over who would sleep in the middle, next to grandma during the weekdays when our granddad worked nights. The middle was right under grandma who often cuddled us whenever we were near. I think about one of my sisters in Christ who gives the absolute best hugs, which always come right on time. Her warm and cheerful embrace sends peace to my soul and exudes the love of Christ that gives me the sense of unity and protection.

In our hectic world, filled with stress and worries, a hug can be a powerful reset button, lifting your spirits and soothing your soul. Let's pay attention to those around us, offering hugs freely and spreading love wherever we go. Remember, just like children, adults also crave the healing power of a hug, even if they don't always ask for it. Let's challenge ourselves to give and receive more hugs, creating a ripple of positivity and warmth in our lives!

Today, I challenge you to embrace more, hug more, and feel the incredible joy that comes from sharing love through hugs. And remember, the real challenge lies in being open to receiving hugs as much as you give them. Practice this phrase I learned from my four-year old cousin - "Give me a huggie." Get ready to feel absolutely AWEsome!
